ATF fluid and Power Steering fluid should be pretty much the same. Both are made to run hydraulic "things"...
My new Ford truck specs for the use of ATF oil for power steering. That is satisfying, since that's what I've been using for the last 30 years. ;)) I don't know what kind of cooking smoke PS oil might give your BBQ. But, I'm willing to bet it would leave a "layer of flavor" you would not soon forget.
