I once did a complete mechanical restoration on a 1966 E-type coupe. Blueprinted and balanced the engine, rebuilt carbs, etc., etc. An amazing car to drive when sorted. Loads and loads of fun. The best were the V12s, but from a performance standpoint they weren’t that great, as it added a lot of weight to the front end. The 3.8 was a good engine, but repower one with the later 4.2 liter inline six and you had a serious race car.
I’ll never forget the first V12 XJ we had in the shop, a 1976 silver with maroon interior. Stunningly beautiful car. I drove it home one night, and was stunned that on a road that was 30 mph, which I thought I was doing, I was actually going about 60 mph!
