My first car was a 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88. I'm not sure how many miles it
had. My brother sold it to me for $100. I'm pretty sure my parents made him
sell it and helped him buy his next car. It was completely worn out. In 1978
the gas crisis wasn't that long before and GM had developed some pretty small
engines for large cars. It had a 260 cu v-8. That doesn't sound tiny
nowadays. But, a 78 Oldsmobile was a BIG heavy car. To make things worse,
someone before my brother had used it for towing.

So, when my brother sold it to me, he took me to Jiffy Lube. He said if you
get your oil changed here they will do a "fluid check" whenever you pull in and
will fill up any fluids that are low. He recommended that I go to JL at least
once a week. That old car used, leaked, or vaporized oil very quickly. But,
that wasn't the most interesting issues it had. The other mysterious problems
it had were:

1. If the front was parked downhill, the rear speakers didn't work. UNLESS,
you honked the horn and then the horn came through the speakers.
2. If it was running and the passenger door was opened exhaust would pour into
the car.
3. The headliner fell down. So, being a 16 year old poor dumb kid, I used a
staple gun to staple it up. It took approximately 6000 staples. I'm sure it
cost more to staple than to fix it.
4. If the cigarette lighter was pushed, it would heat up and SHOOT OUT onto the
passenger seat glowing red.

It had other problems too. Mostly it was just a piece of junk. But, I was 16
and it was big and A LOT of people could ride in it.

Regarding your car, my father had a 1968 Camaro. It was a SS/396 and it was
orange and white. It was incredible. When I was born and my parents had two
children, they traded off the Camaro for a Buick Station Wagon. I'm glad I was
just a baby or else I would have been very upset.

Subject: [MBZ] My first car

My first car was a 1968 Camaro, looked a lot like this on bring a trailer. Mine
had 327 V8 with factory four speed. Paint was a light metallic green. It also
had the SS detail package with factory gauge package. Bought it when I was in
the Navy in 1972. It had been wrenched at some point. Only sold it for about
2500. Would be worth a lot more now, if only I new. Replaced it with Mazda RX-3
wagon, because I was fly radio control gliders, which was kind of hard to
transport in two door coup.
