I put the charger on it but maybe it was a bit low.  I have not noticed the battery voltage on the screen but I will look for it tomorrow.

Yeah I'm going to order a filter so that should deal with that aspect then I will have to figure out why the pump doesn't keep running.  I need a helper to see if the relay closes when I crank on it.  I should be able to hear it running when I first turn the switch on but couldn't.  I'll put a meter on the pump wires to see if it is actually getting power when I try to start the car.

I think this car has been sitting for 5 or 6 years not the 2 the guy told me (imagine that!) as the last plate had a 2015 expiration.  I poured some dri-gas and a coupla gallons of fresh fuel in the tank, I would think even with crappy old gas it might at least sputter and try to light off.  If I can't get it to start with a fresh filter I guess I could drain the old stuff out and start with some new gas.

These K40 relays seem to be different depending on the year and the car, or maybe not.  I found some posts for an SLK which seems to be (maybe) the same but I'm not sure.  I need to look at the WIS and see what it might tell me for this car.  I've seen some posts about guys reflowing the circuit board so maybe that would be a useful exercise if the computer doesn't tell me anything useful.  I thought about the crank position sensor too not letting it fire but since I got the burp on the ether that should be OK.

More learnings...

Be sure to have a charger on the battery when you’re using the STAR system. Low
voltage will cause it to do all sorts of hinky stuff. You might also get an
error or alarm about voltage being low. There should be a little “dot” in the
upper right corner of the screen with battery voltage listed next to it.

I would get a new fuel filter for it, too. Even if the pump is good the filter
could be nasty.
