Visited the dealership to discuss my cold start problem - to re-state the problem - when the engines cold, it starts instantly but will not rev - when I try to rev I get smoke from the exhaust and it acts like it;s on 3 cylinders. It usually clears up with-in 100 yards - I put the pedal all the way down and it gradually gains speed - while smoking - and then after the 100 yards it screams - running faster than at any other time.

The service technician asked about all the usual stuff that you guys suggested I try - filters, leaks, etc - then he said he's seen a weak FI leak fuel when sitting and leaving a pool of fuel in the cylinder. Then, when the engine is started it is hard to burn before finally reaching a temperature where it ignites and then it runs very fast. Sounds a lot like mine.

So, I thought I'd get your collective opinion - if it sounds like a logical possibility I'll have a diesel shop service the FI's in case that's the problem.

I will do an oil analysis to see what the fuel content of the oil is - if an injector is leaking there should be a high fuel content in the oil possibly affecting the lubricating ability of the oil. Since I just changed the oil I'll wait until I have 1000-1500 miles on the oil before I extract a sample. The kit we sell has a bellows bottle and 4' of tubing to insert into the dipstick - so the oil doesn;t have to be changed to get a sample.

What do ya'll think?? Sound like a reasonable course of action??

TIA -
