exchanged a coupla emails, they just do the reprogramming which I don't think is hard if you know what you're doing (which I don't yet though I have looked into it some).  I need to figure out if any version of the module will fit this car.  I chatted with and FCPEuro guy who said their new unit will fit a whole bunch of cars, and fits mine, so the new one seems to be either a "generic" version that supersedes various part numbers or it is kind of a universal unit, and the VGS1 2 3 might not matter much to the actual transmission.  I'll have to dig into it more and look to see what might be in some of the local knackers I could just pull one and see if it would work.  I can't find in the EPC what the actual part is in this car's trans, it doesn't seem to dig down that far

I think this car has a VGS1 and there are 2s and 3s as well.  I'm trying to 
figure out if I need to be picky about which version I pull from a junker as it 
seems from ads I see that one version will fit a range of cars and supersede 
the one that supposedly fits my car.  I don't know if they are specific to the 
actual mechanicals, or just an upgrade to performance or shifting or something 
and fit the same basic unit.

A new unit is $850-900, these guys will reprogram for $250.  I *might* be able 
to do it myself with the fancy Benz computer but the procedure is a bit 
complicated.

Anyone have any insights on this?  (probably not as this is a "new" car!)
