"Not more than a few minutes without overheating".... speaks loudly of a
blown head gasket and intrusion of combustion gasses into the cooling
system... cooling system holds about 16 psi... compression gases make
140 +- at 400 F, so compression blows into coolant and makes it hot,
quickly.
Quick check, Open coolant tank, start engine, look for bubbles and surging
of coolant as cylinder pressure pushes out. If it does, head gasket is
leaking.
