I never believe the "AC just needs a recharge" line. If that's all it needs, 
why doesn't the seller do it and remove it as an issue in the sale? The buyer 
should assume the system (which is approaching 40 years old) has leaks, and 
probably needs a complete overhaul with many parts replaced.
