ABS light on is probably one of the wheel / axle sensors, or the wires connecting them. My '87 wagon had that light on when I got the car, figured out the wheel sensors were good but the insulation was falling off the wires. Replaced the wires from the wheel into the first connection in the body, and all was good again.
So is there a VIN tag by the windshield? Weird that there is not plate in the door pillar, wonder if someone removed it? Stolen at some point?
