What the shop I went to did was put the wheel on their balancer, spin it and hold a piece of marking chalk at the tread... The bulge marked itself very nicely, and the balancer clearly showed the extreme out of balance. Instantly it was very convincing. I left the marks when I took the tire set back to Big O... and got stonewalled. Which reminds me.. it's time to jab another needle in the Big O voodoo doll... :))
