No, they are not all that expensive, if I recall. I just wondered if I could actually improve it with modern stuff. I'm also in the situation where I will ultimately need to replace the seat upholstery as there is already one small hole in the MB Tex from the spring rubbing where the horsehair had disintigrated. I am reluctant to change the upholstery for fear the color won't quite match and am prepared to live with the fairly minor damage for now. If and when I do that, I will think harder about putting the original style horsehair back in. Momentarily, I am just trying to make the driver's seat more comfortable and not do it any more harm. I'm not a radical but I am not a purist. I don't object to changes if they are equal or better than the original and don't make it look silly.
