I used to sail canoes with Oliver and Sam Moore, who are building the
thing. These ekranoplan WIG vehicles are always supposed to revolutionize
transportation, but none of the countries with the largest incentives to
use them seem to do so. They always use high speed catamaran ferries with
jet drives along with bridge building and roads. In Norway outside of
Trondheim my friends will not take the Catamaran in rough weather
conditions, because the regular slow boat is safer. So both still operate.
It would be great to see these WIG things take off (haha) but it would take
a lot of development and safety protocols for them to establish a good
track record and garner public acceptance.
