Jeep Adding Diesel Grand Cherokee
DaimlerChrysler's new Bluetec diesel engine will make its way into the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the first quarter of 2007, the company announced on Thursday. The engine, which will first be found in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class this fall, is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 with common-rail fuel injection. While the engines will be supplied from Mercedes plants, the Grand Cherokee diesel will be assembled in Detroit by Chrysler. The Grand Cherokee will join the Liberty in Jeep's diesel lineup; Chrysler estimates it will have fuel economy 30 percent better than the gas-engine versions, with a driving range of 425 miles versus 300 miles for a gas-powered model.
