I had an '85 190D 2.2l 5spd I drove just over 100,000 miles. Best I ever got was 43mpg, IIRC I had to keep it to 60mph for that. Average was more like 38mpg.
I also had an '84 190D 2.2l auto, the best I ever got in that was 38mpg, average was more like 32.
