transmission (actually, it appears it's the hydraulic pump that feeds
the torque converter) is leaking profusely (and slipping a bit also as I
suppose one would expect)... anyone got a transmission (or,
maybe even just a known good pump) to spare?

The usual leaking thing is the big O-ring pump seal, assuming you do
mean the pump seal and not the front shaft seal.  That's a service
part, a few dollars is all it should be.  I don't remember what I
paid for the only one I've ever bought, some six years ago.  (I
bought both seals, and they're cheap parts as parts go.)
