I ran into a friend of mine last night who owns a Chrysler dealership, so I
asked about the new Diesel Grand Cherokee some of you mentioned - Turns out it
will not be available in NY (where I live), CA, and a few other states he said.
Apparently it will not meet emission standards.
He also speculated that the only reason Chrysler is making them is to get their
average gas mileage of vehicles over the magic number, and therefore they will
probably never try to make it pass the above states emissions testing.
Sucks for me up here in NY - Probably a nice ride for those who can get one.

Somebody advertised one of those locally a couple of weeks ago.
90% complete, needed wiring and fuel tank. Rebuilt 2.8L, I assume
it was the German Capri motor. Asked $1500, marked sold the 2nd
day the ad ran. I shudder to think what the project cost the guy
over the last 30 years, and he never got to drive it. I thought about
buying it and sticking a real MBZ motor in it.
