A friend who has owned MBZ Diesels over the years told me that he
once bought a turbo kit for the 240D from a company called
STT ,Svensk Turbo Technique, (a Swedish company). He said it was a
bolt on kit that transformed the car. Has anyone heard of it?
The other 240D turbo possibility is a 300D turbocharger and manifold
with one cylinder sawed off and blocked.
Yes, those would increase power.
I think if I get my 240D going again I might just leave it alone,
but, it is a tempting idea.
Resist temptation. Your 240D could self-destruct very quickly with the
increased temperatures and pressures from a turbo. The turbo engines were
very thoroughly re-designed to be able to take the added stresses of a
turbo.
Turbo conversions of non-turbo engines were seldom durable and produced
only modest power gain. When Mercedes converted the 616/617 engine, they
redesigned the entire engine and injection pump. If you need more power,
get a 5 cylinder engine, if you need more power yet, get a 5 with a turbo!
