I have to admit I don't miss worrying if my 240D would start in sub zero temperatures. I don't think I ever got one to start unassisted below -10F. My '98 Jetta TDI started unassisted at -20F once. It's never been that cold since I got my '15 Jetta TDI but I bet it would start no problems well into negative double digits.
