My coolant temp sensor (the one in the T-stat housing) isn't current hooked

Where should I be wiring it up to?

Also, just to confirm, that IS the sensor that controls the auxiliary
electric fan, correct?

Mac,

My 79 300SD, a 116 chassis, has the sensor you describe. The wire comes
from a group that is running forward on the frame rail, below the air cleaner
and battery. It is probably brown, or maybe brown with a stripe of color, as
it merely grounds through the sensor when the temperature setting is reached.

Does your aux fan run as soon as the key is turned to the run position? If
so, the PO may have cut the tip connector off and grounded it to the frame
somewhere convenient.

Good luck,
