I recall Rudolf Diesel wanting to exhibit an ammonia refrigerator at (I forget which) World's Fair but being denied due to safety concerns. The idea for his "Rational Heat Engine" as he called it and a Diesel engine as everyone else calls it, grew from his experience with compressing gases...which also landed him a job working for Carl von Linden, an expert in liquifying gasses and pioneer of refrigeration (though not it's inventor): "German engineer Carl von Linden, patented not a refrigerator but the process of liquifying gas in 1876 that is part of basic refrigeration technology." Interestingly, von Linden chastized our dear Rudolf for wasting his time perfecting a method of creating perfectly clear ice which was quite the rage among the Paris elite. All this came before the design of the engine...although he was fascinated with engine design from his youth. An interesting concommitance of interests which led to the compression ignition engine as we - more or less - know it today. Anyway, an interesting aside. I know the stuff is very efficient however I believe it is extremely corrosive.

Needed a complete front end rebuild as well as rear subframe mounts. Had a little trouble tracking a straight line down the road. Ran well, but needed some pretty serious cosmetic help. Seller turned my offer down thinking he could get north of $3000. Maybe he did. Haven't seen it advertised in a while.
