Dimitri., I have used atf for power steering fluid, on a 87 and on a 92 w124
The 92 was leaking badly , the leaking stopped while I was waiting for the
proper fluid to arrive. I am leary about putting the correct fluid in.

Driving home yesterday I spotted this stately gentleman:
https://townlinemotors.com/vdp/19468748/Used-1973-MercedesBenz-220-for-sale-in-Orange-MA-01364

It looked good as we drove by, didn't stop to check in any closer. Price seems
high but if the mileage were real...

Pretty optimistic for a W114, even with the miles.

If that had AC AZ Bob would be on it like a hobo on a hotdog as he says. Could
be a good birthday present, though!

Can I use Dexron/Mercon ATF in a W124 ps pump? Ideally I?d like to use the MB
stuff but the reservoir is completely empty and I don?t want to drive to an MB
dealer like that.

You have to wonder why someone would buy something like that and
essentially never drive it.

50 years old and supposedly only driven, 750 miles per year?

IIRC the rule of thumb is that a car with a serpentine belt can not use ATF.

I ruined 2 (the seals leaked) before I learned my lesson. Be smarter than me.

Thank you. I?m always on the lookout.
So far today I have the CrossFit workout done, the kids took me to breakfast,
and now I get to go get my taxes done. Yee Haa!
Thus far my 64th circuit of old Sol is good.

I *think* so. I'm pretty sure thats what I used although back when I still had
a 190D we had a great autoparts store in town that carried stuff like Pentosin
power steering fluid.

I just went and checked and I've still got part of a liter of Pentosin in the
garage. I suspect I used that.

Realistically all it has to do is not foam and not eat the seals. I *think*
regular PS fluid would be fine. Worst case you run that until you can use that
until the "right" stuff shows up.
The stuff I have is:
https://www.amazon.com/Pentosin-1405116-Long-Life-Mercedes-Benz-Volkswagen/dp/B002WTHW26/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=pentosin+chf+11s&qid=1676305625&sprefix=pentosin+%2Caps%2C100&sr=8-1
