The downside, for these, is there's a LOT brighter small surface
that can be in your eyeline, which is at least vaguely fatiguing
depending on where you stand, etc.  They claim 10x the light,
but it's coming from something barely larger than the original
surface.  It's like looking at a 500W halogen shop light vs
a 60W light bulb.

Better, overall, are either larger diffused fixtures, or indirect
(ceiling bounce) lighting that makes for a softer, more even light.
Lighting can be bright and not harsh, but it takes more work.

The best light in my garage is currently coming from the two-bulb
4' fluorescent fixtures that are in large boxes with waffle-pattern
styrene diffusers over them.  They have overbright LED tube
replacements (Costco) in them, but are tamed nicely by the diffusers.
Second-best are the 8' HO tubes.  None of these are 'too bright',
even if you stare directly at them.
