That's fairly typical -- the same problem usually confronts those 
attempting to replace the diff mounts on W201 and later rear subframes. 
 Instructions say press out with tool, but the steel bushing usually 
won't move (steel on steel here).  An air chisel to kink the ring takes 
it out in seconds.

Aluminum will almost always seize on steel over the years.
