As I recall, there wasn’t anything “official”, but if a car came in under 
warranty or close to it with the symptoms, it got replaced.

My former 350SDL got either a crate engine or short block, I couldn’t quite 
tell exactly which from the VMI, around 90k.

300SDL version was prone to water jacket leaks in the head/head gasket, as I 
recall. There were later heads (014?) that were redesigned to address the 
issue. 350SDLs had leakage problems as well that when extreme, would cause the 
#1 cylinder (typically) to hydrolock, causing the connecting rod to bend. I 
also recall that there could be issues with cylinder wear, with significant oil 
consumption being the tell (more than 1 quart/1,000 miles, as I recall.)

Correct me on any of this as necessary, my memory is a bit sketchy on these as 
it’s been a while since I’ve dealt with any of them.
