Lady friend says she would like a hot tub.  Day or so later I see on FBMP a hot tub close by for $400, needs a motor/rebuild.  Hmmmm looks fairly nice.  I send her the link, she likes it, I say I could probably fix it and get it going. She contacts the guy, he gets back to her says she (that would be me) can see it today.  Meanwhile price drops to $300.  I go look at it, it has a control board inside that might or might not be a little crusty, and stuff has been kinda moved around and disconnected, the motor terminals on a relay board look a little burned, not sure what that is about.  The unit itself looks pretty nice though.

I'm talking to the guy, he just wants it gone.  I didn't even work him over, just said I didn't think the lady friend would want something that might not be reliable, I could mess with it, maybe I would use it blahblah but I have plenty to keep me occupied blahblahblah and ready to walk away, he says how about $200.  hmmm why not? Sold!  Pretty easy deal.

So anyway now I have this thing to mess with (I have to take my trailer over to get it tomorrow). Basically it looks like a motor, pump, and heater, it has some kind of controller and some various boxes that look maybe to control other things down in the mechanical area, maybe the jets or something if they have solenoids on them, I don't know.  I think the pump body itself is gone but online I found some fairly cheap.  I'll try to find a manual for the thing and a schematic to figure out what goes where.  There are local motor rebuilders so I will take it to one and see what might be wrong with it, could just be the capacitors or something, I don't know much about electric motors.  Looks like it can be wired 110V or 220V either way, I'll see what that is about to at least use 110V to see if I can get it running. It looks basically like your standard HVAC unit motor, I think I have one kicking around somewhere, it just needs to bolt up to and run a pump.

I'm thinking if all it really needs is a motor switch, a heater switch, and something to open jets I could just hard wire switches to those bits and bypass the controller board if it is inop, hit the buttons when you want to use it and bypass whatever the controller thingie does.

Fun times expanding the boundaries of my stupidity!
