Nothing wrong with pushrods, it only limits RPM.  For a diesel, which isn't 
really high-revving anyway,
it's probably preferable.  Simpler, easier to service, longer-lasting.  My two 
favorite trucks, the Dodge
diesel and the V10, are both pushrod engines.  Both are powerful, reliable, and 
long-lasting.
