I notice a dull whine upon acceleration, not on coast. whines also on
steady driving but not as loud as on acceleration.
Suggestions please as where to proceed from here?

Marshall,
I want to reinforce what Jim said. The center differential mount will
likely be collapsed and make metal to metal contact under certain load conditions.
The rear ends always make noise, even when new, and the noise is then
transmitted via the metal to metal contact. This is virtually impossible to
confirm without removing the mount.
If you have never changed this mount, plan on doing so.
Regards,
Jim Friesen
What Jim said!!!!! The center bearing and mount as well as the condition
of the flex discs CAN contribute to noise, but the differential mounts
are where to start.
