What's wrong with a 134 conversion?...Time will tell how long it lasts
Exactly. I've heard of too many failure stories due to the nasty (poisonous?) oils that are hygroscopic and don't lubricate as well as the old stuff. A _good_ conversion might last years, but those cheapies have a bad reputation. Then you have to consider its innate lesser efficiency in an already marginal system.
Propane makes me nervous. If the heater core thingy leaks inside the car, won't the propane be heavy enough that it may settle near the floor. Then a spark might ignite it?
You could easily engineer a scenario where the car blew up, but I don't think it could really happen by itself. The odds are against it. Propane is hard to ignite when compared to gasoline, anybody that has experience with an aging gas grille is familiar with it. The propane has a narrow range of flammability in air. Too little, or too much, and it won't ignite. And you can smell it long before it reaches flammable concentration. There are much higher automotive risks. There are countries that use this stuff in refrigeration, both stationary and mobile. -- Jim
