Howdy,
I plan to replace my GP's (602.962 engine) during the next few weeks & will check compression a that time. I was checking my handy, dandy Tech Reference book for the values to look for. It's called "Technical Data - Passenger Cars from MB for $30. It covers *everything* in the cars and engines from tires to sunrook to bumpers to water pump with values and sizes for every possible thing.

Anyway - It says the "as new" value should be 26-32 bar or 377/464 psig. However, it says, if using tool 001 589 21 00 the value should be 29-35 bar or 421/507. Why would one gauge require a different value?

BTW, the min value is given as approx. 18 bar / 261 psi.

Is there anything else I should do while I'm doing the GP.s? I bought a reamer from Sears to have on hand - hopefully the Ps will come out without too much difficulty. I'll test the compression and adjust the ALDA a tad - while it's open I'll clean up stuff - what else can/should I do?

I'm replacing the GPs because my preglow light doesn't come on when starting but *will* light for 60-90 seconds once the engine has started - which tells me I have 1 or 2 GPs failed. Also, when 1st started it runs slighty unevenly like all GPs haven't done their job properly.
