Replaced Torsion in bar in the 1983 240D. It wasn't too bad. Hardest part was getting the nuts off the back of the Brake Master Cylinder. After that everything went fairly quickly. I also replaced driver side lower control bushing, that was a real bear. I ordered a very good used torsion bar with all nuts and bolts and new rubber from Chuck at All Benz. He was very helpful. $130.00 shipped to my door. New bar is $260.00.

rumor has it that MICHAEL wrote:

The drivers side front torsion bar where it hooks to the control arm
is rusted away.

1. Is this a difficult fix on the 240D? It looks like I just have
remove brake master cylinder and the battery and box. 2. Where can
I get this part? New or Used? I will also need all the parts to
re-attach it. Kaleb do have one?

It took me about 2.5 hr to remove one from my 4-cyl parts car. On
another day, I spent about 3-4 hr. doing the bad-out, good-in swap on
a 5-cyl.

And since it is "above" the springs, no need to messs with spring
compressors.

It looks like it can't possibly get out, but it can.

Oh, and I did one or the other without disconnecting the brake lines.
I just unbolted the booster and skooted it forward.
