I am not sure about Porsche, but on the Mercedes it has a circuit to detect
ignition pluses and turns off fuel pump if engine is not running.

Dog my cats!! I bought a DME/fuel pump relay as a spare for my Porsche a few

years back. Cost me $21.00 US. Just two relays in one can with a common 12V
input.

The original 23 year old unit is still amping and volting away.
