I don't have a good answer for you... I have some theories. #1 As carbon collects it grabs some iron thats floating around in the engine. Grabs is the wrong word, the iron collects with the carbon. Then when the carbon is released the iron is also but while the carbon blows out of the engine the iron sneaks down into the oil.
#2 As the carbon blows out of the engine bits of iron that it was attached to flake off and sneak down into the oil. #3 Due to poor maintenance on the part of the previous owner (there lots of other more obvious examples of this) sludge has collected in the oil pan which is slowly being released into the engine by the detergent action of the clean oil I'm using thus releasing iron that was trapped in the sludge. I've been considering something like Auto-Rx or Amsoil's Engine Flush to get the crud out more quickly, but based on the last result I'm tempted to just change the oil and test again at 8,000 miles. I suspect (hope) I'll see an even slower rise in iron this time and maybe after another change or two iron levels will stay in normal territory. -Curt --------------------------------- Get your email and more, right on the new Yahoo.com From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 25 15:58:46 2006 Received: from sccrmhc12.comcast.net ([204.127.200.82]) by server8.arterytc8.net with esmtp (Exim 4.52) id 1Gcl9R-0000CV-PR for mercedes@okiebenz.com; Wed, 25 Oct 2006 15:58:46 +0000 Received: from [192.168.0.5] (c-24-18-178-168.hsd1.wa.comcast.net[24.18.178.168]) by comcast.net (sccrmhc12) with SMTP id <20061025155836012002froee>; Wed, 25 Oct 2006 15:58:37 +0000 Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v624) In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Redghost <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 08:59:01 -0700 To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.624) X-Antivirus-Scanner: Clean mail though you should still use an Antivirus Subject: Re: [MBZ] 1972 220D X-BeenThere: mercedes@okiebenz.com X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.9.cp1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> List-Id: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes_okiebenz.com.okiebenz.com> List-Unsubscribe: <http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com>, <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> List-Archive: </pipermail/mercedes_okiebenz.com> List-Post: <mailto:mercedes@okiebenz.com> List-Help: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> List-Subscribe: <http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com>, <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 15:58:46 -0000 Shut the fracis up On Oct 25, 2006, at 12:45 AM, kevin kraly wrote: > Tell him you will pay him $50 and to STFU > > STFU?
