Jerry - it would help if you gave a bit more of a description - such as color (outside/inside), any rust, where the car is located, number of owners, records? I personally wouldn't mention WVO use, as anyone who knows about Diesels should also know that cars of that vintage can be run on alternative fuels, but that is at their own risk as there are things to consider when doing so, such as ambient temperature, the source of the WVO, how well processed, etc.
Just my $.02....

Sadly, I must part with our 1982 240D as we are buying a new car with all
the safety features for transporting our children to and from school,
carpooling, activities, etc., and my wife will not tolerate our driveway
looking " like a parking lot" (see list below). Anyway, I chose not to
trade it in for the $500 the dealer offered as salvage value, hoping to
sell it myself. My question - What would be an appropriate asking price?
I'd like to get a few informed opinions from this group.

Here are some facts about this car:
234,000 miles
manual transmission
A/C refurbished about five years ago and working well. R12, not converted
probably needs new rear shock absorbers, fronts replaced about four years
ago
burns some oil
tires almost new, substantial tread
leaking oil gauge replaced a couple of years back, but oil stained carpet
on driver's side
driver's seat worn, others in decent condition
dash has several cracks
sunroof works well, no leaks
paint in good condition, and looks quite good after waxing
vacuum door locks not working
I presume the compression is OK because it starts up promptly

This is not a comprehensive inventory of the car, but it gives some idea
of its conditon. What do you think I could get for it? Does it help to
mention possible conversion to WVO? Is it best sold locally or on ebay? I
invite your opinions.
