I just finished shoveling the 1/2 inch of ice and 1 1/2 inches of sleet off the drive - I'm going to be sore in the AM.
I was wondering how others get the thick layers of ice off the roof of the car before driving 70mph down the highway, sending lethal sheets of ice into the windshields of those following (or in other lanes)? I ended up cracking it on the roof and hood of the 300D with a rubber mallet - aiming for the large flexible areas rather than the solid edges. Felt risky, but didn't seem to do any damage to the finish. I had thoroughly warmed up the car (had to to get the ice off the windows), so some of the ice was melting on the roof. The hood pad is working fine - the ice was still frozen to the hood. I'm sure that most non-garaged cars tomorrow morning will still be covered with sheets of ice, so I plan to go in a little late, and keep lots of distance from those in front of me. -- OK Don, KD5NRO Norman, OK "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."
