It would be an evolutionary advantage for a mid/upper manager; they wouldn't bump into dangerous big objects (or walk off cliffs) that are in plain sight of someone who's head is squarely on their shoulders (and shoulders above their hips!) with anywhere near the frequency of thier "peers"
