Duno, I've never tried to fix one to find out. I'm not exactly sure what's
back there. I was thinking there was basically a metal cable in a sleeve
that just inserts into the speedo and then there is a ring on the outside
that screws down to hold everything tight. Where is this sleeve bearing?
In the speedo? or on the end of the cable? If it's on the end of the
cable, how would you otherwise lube the cable?

Thanks!
Levi

I've been using M1 5W20 for this. Are you sure it's the cable and
not the sleeve bearing in the head? That's usually the source of
any shrieking in my experience. Same fix, but requires application
in a little different location.

If you let it go for very long it'll ruin the cable sleeve (or the
bearing itself), rendering oil-based 'repairs' useless.
