I ran a couple tanks of B100 in my '83 300D and the fuel gauge suddenly started working better. Probably had something to do with all the black crud that promptly plugged up my fuel filter. Might be worth a try. My low fuel light still didn't work, but from the way it would randomly flicker I think the wires were broken.
