On the A pillar there are 2 star screws which seem to hold a black
plastic inner piece. I'm wondering how the chrome part comes off - there
is a split in the chrome( aluminium ) towards the C pillar.

Peter,

I once had a 300D and never tried to remove the gutter moulding...
But, on my (former) 300SD, there were small Phillips screws that held
the moulding on and were located in the top "jamb" of the door opening.

The moulding was made up of two pieces meeting at the "B" pillar w/
a male/female connection. Back when I had that car repainted, I
removed almost all chrome trip before it went to the paint shop.

On the "A" Pillar moulding trim, are there any screws visible? I've
looked at a bunch of ads on eBay for 300D's and couldn't see anything
clear enough.

HTH,

Take care,

Chuck
