All this reminds me of the freeing feeling I had with my '68 Dodge Coronet. We stripped everything out that did not contribute to forward propulsion (well, brakes and steering stayed - and a plastic seat or two). After almost knocking out a girlfriend with fumes, I put in a piece of sheetmetal over the heater core hole. That was back when I still had the original engine with exhaust leak. Maybe this is why I still am attracted to the more stripped-down cars.
