the reason is that the shock resistance is greater than any automatic watch movement ever made and the service requirements are lesser than any ever made (they will generally run a minimum of 10 years before needing attention and some have been known to run much longer. try that with a fine swiss watch) it is examplary, yet cheap. it is a unique proprietary design in an age where such designs start at 4 figures.
