I just picked up an 83 300TD with 298K miles on it. Among some other issues, it needs a vacuum pump. Was working fine and just quit. No vacuum to anything. How hard is it to change the pump? What drives it? I have an 83 300SD I can rob parts from........Will the vacuum pump fit my TD? I have become a pro at cleaning out the primary fuel filter as the tank is VERY rusty. I should get a new tank but for now I can't afford it. I have put a few hundred miles on her so far and I love it. So much more power than my 240D had. Overall the car appears to have been very well maintained by an older gentleman who passed away a few years ago. A car dealer got it, apparently got tired of messing with plugged fuel filters and swapped it to a friend of mine for a lawn tractor. I ended up swapping my very cool 68 M37 Army truck for the TD and an 89 Iveco Euro turbo 15-14 truck with only 94K miles. The wagon is originally from MD and has very little rust. Very solid around the jacking points. The tach works when it feels like it and none of the dash lights are working so I am going to get into that tomorrow if time allows. The suspension and steering is all in extremely good shape and it handles great. The rear end sits up very nice. If anyone has any of these parts in reasonable driving distance from upstate NY I may be interested.......Both front and rear bumpers, palomino third seat and belts, exhaust system in good shape, FUEL TANK, hood pad and I am sure the list will go on.
