So is yours a 2.2? I'm learning that the 2.5 is a 5 cylinder? Forgive my lack of knowlege. I'm taking it your mileage is coming from a four cyl.
Yes, I am expecting high prices, and am finding that they are hard to find cars. But you know, we were just looking at $18k Golfs, and test drove a $25k Jetta. And we want this to be our "nice" car, so we are open to paying even up to half of the $10k we get from our CRV sale - only for a really nice one that needs no repairs. (Incidently, this will make our 240D more "mine" - there's been some jealousy over it - my wife feels I consider it mine, and I admit I do. I have to bite toungue when she does stuff to it that I think is hard on it). Anyway, we are adamant that we want a manny, and we want the 2.2 because it gets the maximum mileage - even the elusive 40 mpg a times ?? And it seems that MB tex is almost always found - we don't want cloth. So anybody who's willing to part with theirs chime in - we'll pay what it's worth. Also chime in with more tips on the pitfalls and virtues to these models (like, is running green antifreeze going to lead to a head gasket failure? I ask this for a reason) Brian 83 240D On 5/7/07, Curt Raymond <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
I have one and no you can't have it. Be prepared to GAG when you see 190D prices. I paid just under $3k for mine and it needed work. Since then fuel prices have risen so I expect its more valuable now. In retrospect I should have bought the 2 owner '84 I passed on at $4k, it had less than 200,000 miles... In the winter my car gets 35-37mpg, top in the summer was 43. I've been driving really fast lately so only getting around 38.... -Curt Date: Mon, 7 May 2007 02:49:52 -0500 From: "Zoltan Finks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [MBZ] Seeking 190D 5spd To: "Mercedes Discussion List" <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Who has a 190D 2.2 5 spd. they want to sell? We want to buy. That's the headline, now I'll provide background: Thoughts have turned this weekend to looking for a vehicle. We have been wanting to get something better than the 21 - 25 MPG Honda CRV we have. We have been thinking for some time about finding a 190D with manual tranny. *It is the 2.2 engine that gets the better mileage, is that right?* After finding one and talking with the owner on the phone, we are not very comfortable. How many of you can relate to trying to communicate with a seller who, when you say you're calling about the car for sale, they say "yeah?", or "ok?". Then you have to proceed to pry any information from them and they speak only when prodded to, and then only in one sentence or shorter answers, and almost in English (oh, and when asked twice what his name was, he chose Mike). This guy claims the car was given to him by a friend. He's had it "about a year". He was apparently unaware of the body damage clearly visible in the photos he posted. He claims to have records, but when asked, said they consist of "oil change". I could go on. BUT, I am now turning, to you in search of intelligent honesty. So who has a 190D 2.2 5 spd. they want to sell me? Brian 83 240D 127k mi. (keeping it) --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
