That is also the way I feel about the 300SEL that Donald has. I'd be able to buy one cheaper, but not in the shape that one is in. In the long run it should be cheaper than a cheap one. BillR

Unfortunately, the cost will likely be more given you are asking to buy and he or she is not asking to sell. It sounds good - pay what you have to within reason to get it. When you are talking about $1500 to $5000 for a good car, it really does not matter all that much what it costs. Looking for a deal will not get you the car that you want unless you happen to be really lucky. I paid a proverbial arm and a leg for my old 300D compared to the numbers that you folks normally bandy about, but I am happy with it and think I really got a bargain. Going into my 3rd summer with really nothing done but oil changes (and restuffing the base on the driver's seat). There is a 1984 (I think might 82-84) 123 300D parked in front of my office building everyday. I have been trying to find the owner to see if he is interested in selling. It is a butter yellow color with the tan (palomino?) interior. Paint is oxidized, but it looks like it might just need an afternoons worth of elbow grease. Interior is nice with some wear on the drivers seat. But, the drivers seat does not look totally flat and worn. The rest looks good. It has 130,000 miles. My last one of these had over 370,000 miles when I sold it several years ago for $1500. I suspect with the recent diesel craze, I would have to $2500 or so. Sound about right? These get about 25-27 mpg. Correct? Donald H.
