That's logical, but:

I have been clinging to the hope that the feedback system in ebay manages to
keep things relatively honest.

I have wanted to ask this list this question, but I think the list may be
getting burnt out on ebay talk for a while. Anyway:
The feedback system: Can any registered user provide feedback on a sale, no
matter how new the feedback providing user is? If so, feedback is a fearful
thing indeed, and this is as it should be (save for abuse). If every ebay
user is allowed to provide feedback and all feedback is taken equally
seriously, then the seller is compelled to provide good products and
services for fear of a tarnished reputation.

The only scenario I can think of that would circumvent the power of negative
feedback is that of a seller constantly re-registering under a new identity.
Though this would be flawed in that if this was done, feedback would start
at zero again for the "new" seller.

So for a high percentage of vehicles that are sold on ebay to be turds, then
I wonder how the system works? I am asking honestly, because I am
considering ebay as a source for vehicle purchase.

There are two reasons to sell a car on fleabay.
1. It's so special that buyers will flock to it from thousands of miles
away.
2. Nobody who sees it firsthand will buy it.

Guess which category 90% of the cars fall into?

Mitch.
