I think you will find the vast majority of people have no idea what age
a MB is. My '78 240D has all of its parts, & a beautiful paint job which I
keep clean and waxed and have had several people ask if it's new! It's 30
freakin' years old! Jeez... Also, I worked with a guy - reasonably
intelligent but not a car guy. We were traveling together to an out of
state engineering office and had to share a rental car with 2 other team
members when we came across a guy pushing his 240D off the street - my
co-worker said, "Look at that! An $80,000 car and he can't keep it
running!"
This is a pretty typical comment from someone who doesn;t know one MB
from another. They've heard about the SL costing $70k to $100k and that's
their impression of all MBs
