It has a 258 inline 6 but we are advised that the engine has been changed and is from a newer vehicle.
Our '82 AMC Eagle wagon had that engine in it. We found out after we purchased it that The rear main along with the VC gasket was leaking badly, the timing chain was practically falling off, and it had an oil-soaked clutch caused by the above main seal. Once these were fixed, it was very reliable although it couldn't do much better than 15mpg in mixed driving.
