Far as refuelling goes, nothing wrong with doing what you do if there are plenty of service stations along the way but I would not recommend it when you are not sure about fuel avaiability. I realise the situation over there is different to what we have here but a golden rule when driving in the outback is to have enough fuel to get to not the next fuel place but the one beyond that.
