Following recommendations I have been holding off on adding any oil to the 240D until the level reaches the "add" notch.
I've been noticing a less than ideal level of valvetrain noise coming from under the hood. I went ahead and added a pint today. The level before adding was a tad above the add line. When I started up and drove away, the engine seemed quieter. It would seem that if adding oil (within proper limits) quiets engine noise, it is a good thing. For all I know, the difference in noise is of no consequence, but that seems a bit counterintuitive.
