Thanks, Tom. This can be my project for next Monday.

BTW...it's time I had a keg in my house. I'll be visiting your keg-o-page.

The special tool is a spreader bar that pushes the front of the tires
out & takes up any slack in the suspension. Last time I had a Mercedes
aligned the shop said "can't do it, don't have the special tool" whereby
I explained that I could be the special tool by standing under the car &
pressing the inside, front edges out while he checked the alignment. I'm
sure they think I'm odd but so do many others...........

Most often, uneven tire wear is an indication of a worn out front end
part and inside tire wear indicates a toe-out condition. 80% of the
time, the cause is a worn out idler arm bushing - easy to replace but
you will need an alignment afterwords. You can check the bushing by
jacking up the passenger side & rocking the tire back & forth. Any play
is no good & if you see that end of the drag link (center link) moving
up & down slightly then it's the bushing.

I believe that the proper alignment of a W123 included use of some
special tools though I am not certain of the details. An indy can do
it, just be sure he knows what he is doing.
