I actually like the XJ. And they are far from look-alikes. Jags have
some technological innovations that not many others have tried, like
inboard rear brake calipers to reduce the unsprung weight & improve
handling.

Now, their choice of suppliers & quality control (or lack there of) is
another matter. But by the 90's, Ford had owned them long enough to make
a difference. Actually, Jags from 87 on are decent machines.

My usual Jag sighting is a '90s XJ (the kind with the square
headlights and imitation-W124 single wiper... what a styling
abomination!) driven by a mean-looking old lady swaddled in pearls and
pelts.  I guess they're pretty skinny too.
